Education for children in the Yangri Valley

Client

Himalayan Life, Wetzikon

Following the catastrophic earthquake in 2015 in the Kathmandu region, Himalayan Life helped rebuild infrastructure in the Yangri Valley. But the vision of the NGO also had a long-term component. They wanted to build a school for the Sherpa children at the very back of the valley, which lies northeast of Kathmandu. This led to the creation of the Yangri Academic Center, where kids from Yangri and the surrounding mountain villages had the opportunity to receive an education. But on June 15, 2021, nature struck again: A flood disaster of this kind, never before seen in the Yangri Valley, tore away large parts of the Yangri Academic Center. The people of Yangri and the surrounding area asked the Himalayan Life team to rebuild the school. And so a new campus is currently being built in Bangdang, about 400 meters above Yangri.

I had the privilege of visiting both places last year together with a team. In addition to photos, two short films were also made.
