Beginner's Photography Course

We will be holding the 2025 course over Pentecost so that you can participate without having to use up your vacation days.

Course content

In the course you will receive the following tools:

• Learn and use the basic functions of your camera

• How can you work with light

• Importing the images into the computer

• Image editing with Adobe Lightroom

Required prior knowledge

• no previous photographic knowledge necessary

• Mastering the basic functions of your computer

Course structure

Module 1: The Camera
Saturday, June 7, 2025 / in the photo studio in Thayngen and in Schaffhausen
10:00 – 21:00 (Coffee bar open from 9:30, lunch and dinner in the studio)

• How does a camera work

• Which parameters are important for the image

• What do the different parameters do

• When can I trust the automatic system and when not?

• Dinner together

• Photography in the dark

Module 2: The Light
Sunday, 8 June 2025 (Whitsun Sunday) / at the Thayngen photo studio
9.30 – 17.30 (Coffee bar open from 9.00, lunch in the studio)

• How can we best use existing light

• How can we bring additional light into our pictures using the simplest means

• How to work with artificial light sources – continuous and flash light

Module 3: Image processing on the computer
Monday, 9 June 2025 (Whit Monday) / at the Thayngen photo studio
9.30 – 17.30 (Coffee bar open from 9.00, lunch in the studio)

• Import the images with Lightroom into a meaningful structure on your computer

• Mastering the basic functions

• Exporting images from Lightroom with the correct settings

• Mastering the masking tools

• Black and white conversion

• Handling Lightroom catalogs

Location

The course will take place in our new photo studio in Thayngen (Schlatterweg 11). We will shoot the photos in the dark in the Schaffhausen region.
We recommend that external participants who have to travel further stay overnight in the region .

Costs

You can book each module individually or participate in all three modules:
CHF 490 for Module 1, including drinks during breaks, lunch and dinner, and photography in the dark
CHF 380 for Module 2, including drinks during breaks and lunch
CHF 380 for Module 3, including drinks during breaks and lunch

If you book all three modules you will receive a 10% discount (CHF 1125 instead of CHF 1250)

Number of participants

min. 4, max. 8 participants

Each participant brings their own photography equipment. For Module 3 (Lightroom), each participant brings their own laptop with Adobe Lightroom installed. You can install the trial version for free before the course if you're not sure whether you want to use the program. We'll send you the link with your registration confirmation, along with the invoice for transferring the course fee. We have two laptops that we can lend to participants if needed.

It is not advisable to buy a camera specifically for the course because in this course you will learn what is important when choosing a camera that is suitable for you.
